Tutorial: Drain motor, air filter, filter in diesel
(Renault Espace 4 2.2 L DCI)
In this tutorial you will see how to do maintenance on the Espace 4 2.2 L DCI from Renault. It comes to make the engine drain by changing the oil filter. The air filter and fuel filter will be also changed.
Make the engine oil drain
- Remove the oil level gauge to facilitate the release of oil later. This gauge is located on the front of the engine, while down, under the fan.
- Remove the lower deck of motor protection
- Drain the engine oil by unscrewing the drain under the lower crankcase plug. Allow the tray to receive the oil.
- Locate the jar of oil filter at the bottom of the engine, on the front.
- Loosen the lid of the jar with a strap wrench. The lid o-ring that doesn't need to be very tight.
- Aren't looking to completely unscrew the lid because the filter is normally remained full of oil. When the lid is unscrewed approximately 1 cm, a hole in the cover screw will not allows to remove the oil which will sink slowly. Therefore, recover it in a jar.
- Leave the lid avoiding to dirty it with oil because it will be difficult to tighten it. The filter comes with because it is clipped to the lid of the filter canister.
- Replace the used filter by filter and nine in the clipping to the lid.
- Rest the lid with filter and screw it hand to put the seal in contact. Tighten then a quarter turn to the strap wrench.
- Tighten the engine drain plug with its new gasket.
- Redo level by controlling the oil level gauge. Turn the engine a few moments and correct level.
Change the air filter
The engine air filter is big enough. It measures 370 x 140 x 30 mm and its reference is 7701 056 390. It is also hardly accessible so plan to be 2 just to avoid trouble or cause damage.
- Air filter box is located at the bottom of the engine Bay, left side of the vehicle, behind the battery.
- Unscrew the cable located on the top of the Terminal less battery. It will interfere with the opening of the filter housing. Made there a bit rotate.
- Disconnect the flowmeter's electric cable. It passes over the case and will also hamper to open it.
- Unscrew the screws on the air filter housing cover. There are 2 long screws to remove on the left side of the cover.
- Remount the small screw on the right side of the cover to avoid tearing the filter passing.
- Exit the used air filter and replace it with the new one. At this point, it is useful to be 2 to hold everything in place while the second presents the new filter.
- Tighten the screws of the cover of the filter housing.
- Reconnect the disconnected electrical sheets previously.
Change the fuel filter
Removal of the diesel fuel filter jar
- The jar of the fuel filter is located on the right side of the engine compartment. To find it, follow the hose out of the hand pump.
- Disconnect all hoses located on the top of the jar. These hoses have tips clip need to tighten 2 sides to disconnect them.
- Protect hoses to prevent the insertion of impurities. Possible by putting the tip in a small plastic bag. Pay particular attention to the filter (white cap) outlet hose that goes directly to the injection pump high pressure.
- Remove the jar which is just threaded on a rail on the right side.
Drain the diesel filter jar
Once the jar is created, it is still full of diesel fuel. Therefore, empty it before changing the filter. At the bottom of the jar, you will see a bleed screw. Do not empty the filter because it has a seal that is surely tired and that it would change. And this joint, it is not shipped with the new filter.
- Place the jar on a vise and clean quickly.
- Slightly unscrew the screw in the center of the lid, the filter begins immediately to empty.
- Retrieve the fuel in a small container prepared in advance. This fuel can be used to clean parts but absolutely shall not be restored to a tank.
- Remove the cover of the filter canister
- Lift the filter which is empty then it also and retrieve diesel
- Once the fuel flows more, pour the fuel remaining in the jar to your tray.
Diesel fuel filter change
- First Clean thoroughly the jar and lid. This helps to avoid the presence of filings that would damage vote injection pump high pressure.
- Put the new filter in its jar
- Install the new o-ring in the lid
- Install the new seal cover screw
- Install the lid of the filter canister and tighten its screws
Replacing the fuel filter jar
- Rest the filter Bowl in the compartment in the clipping on its rail
- Reconnect the hoses of the jar with the exception of the output of gasoline. It is with the White tip.
- Pump the bulb to fill the filter with diesel fuel.
- As soon as diesel fuel comes out of the filter by the hose, reconnect the hose outlet. This facilitates the start avoiding tire the booster pump. This also avoids opening the bleed with its tired gasket screw.
